Falling for Fraud

ree

One of the biggest problems in spirituality is fraud. There are many people proclaiming themselves “mediums” or “witches” online, but they don’t know anything about mediumship or magic. What’s worse, many of these so-called mediums have the money and time to create websites, digital marketing campaigns, and they buy all the right things for their altars (which they of course publish on social media).

When people call these frauds, they are often told that someone cursed them or did some kind of witchcraft on them and only they can break it - for a price. Sadly, many people fall for these tricks and end up paying hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for services that don’t help at all or make matters worse.

How can you avoid falling for this?

  1. Be skeptical

Think about what they’re telling you. Real mediums will always read you and provide evidence of their mediumship faculties for you before they prescribe rituals or other services. If they start telling you about your life and they start mentioning things that aren’t true, that medium should not be trusted to do work for you. It’s necessary to know the tricks frauds use to try to pass themselves off as mediums (Read about that here). Anyone doing spiritual work for others should have developed their mediumship faculties first. Would you trust a first-year medical student with your surgery? Don’t trust mediums without proof of their effectiveness.

  1. Remember ethics

One time, I had a client call asking me to do a binding spell on an ex-girlfriend to get her back (I don’t do binding spells, fyi). His spirits were showing that there was a future love interest for him but he needed to move on. Instead, he insisted that he wanted her back. I shuffled my Tarot cards, threw a spread, and saw that he was paying for his bad behavior from when they were together. At that point, he started telling me about his drinking and how he had a baby with another woman while he was still with her. My spirit told me that the woman had told her kids not to speak to him, and that she was willing to press charges if he showed up at her house again. Then he admitted that he went to her house and that she wouldn’t let him in, so he started trying to talk to her from her front yard; it didn’t work.

Since he was obsessed with this woman, he had called another spiritual worker who told him that he could get her back for him for $900. I told him that magic doesn’t work that way. If she was forcefully against reconnecting with him, there was no loving energy to manipulate so that she’d go back to him. That magician would have to try to destroy her life first so that all other paths are dead-ends and she’d show up at his front door asking for a second chance. He would surely ask for more than $900 because he cannot sweeten a woman that has no love for him. Sadly, he was willing to pay that amount, and he showed that he wasn’t willing to fix his behavioral patterns so that his life could improve naturally.

If you make bad decisions, you will experience the consequences of those bad decisions. There is no amount of magic that will solve your problems in that case. Even if you were to temporarily fix something through sorcery, you’re going to need to resort to it again in the future because you’re the problem.

Oh, and the client in this example ended up calling me back telling me that the other spiritualist did ask for more money because “he’d need to use both hands.” I told him, “You’re getting ready to waste a small fortune.”

4. Know what mediumship and magic are for

This is where I might be different from other spiritualists. It’s my strong conviction that mediumship and magic are for spiritual evolution, not manipulation. Many people resort to calling a psychic when they want to know the future, or they’ll call a witch when they want to manipulate a situation in their favor. These things are not mainly for those purposes, despite what the general culture might claim.

Mediumship is meant to help people improve their lives through contact with enlightened spirits. Those spirits will help the person develop empathy, forgiveness, and clarity in their decision-making. Magic is meant to help people progress through collaboration with spirits. Neither of these things exist for self-interest or mundane desires. The minute you find yourself trying to manipulate another person’s free will or trying to destroy someone because of a desire for revenge, you have misunderstood the reason for mediumship and magic.

Healthy spirituality will help you improve the circumstances of your life by helping you think clearly, break self-destructive patterns, and fostering a forward-thinking mentality. If that is not your goal, you will lose money trying to achieve a quality of life that you cannot sustain.
